Police Radar Speed Traps and Speed Trap Locater

July 7, 2010

I have personally been a “victim” of police radar speed traps. I say a “victim” because I didn’t deserve a speeding ticket. I know, I know, that’s what most people say. Calls pour into our traffic law office daily with other “victims” eager to tell their stories of innocence.
Until I decided this will be my last ticket! I will now fight fire with fire; well actually, I will now fight technology with technology.
First, let me quickly tell you why I shouldn’t have received that last speeding ticket. Then, I’ll tell you why it’ll be my last!
While driving home from the lake on a 2-lane highway, a car was in front of me pulling a boat on a trailer that was too big for his car. When the driver reached 45 mph or more, the boat and trailer started “fishtailing” and rocking his car. I don’t know if the driver had been drinking or not, but the radical movements of his car just made me want to get my family away from the whole operation.

I passed the car and went about 10 mph over the speed limit doing so. Yes, I drove right into one of the police radar speed traps along the route. The cop pulled me over as I watched the precarious fishtailing boat and car rig proceed on down the highway. He wasn’t interested in hearing about why I was speeding past this road hazard.
I’m not really very “techy” and I don’t like gadgets much. But I do love my GPS. For finding anything from the best Italian restaurant nearby to a way around a traffic jam, the more I use my GPS, the more I use my GPS!

Well, like a popular country music song goes, “I thought I loved you then”!

Now, I have found a simple, inexpensive software download that can be added to Garmin, Tom Tom, iPhone , Magellen, Android, and other GPS units. It flashes and alerts me to police radar speed traps in the area and is continually updated in real time via satellite.
It would have saved me from the ticket above. I would not have picked that particular time to pass that car with my GPS flashing “Alert” “Alert”.
Phantom Alert is not a radar detector. It is innovative software from a Washington based company that alerts drivers to nearby law enforcement “points of interest”. I don’t have this software so I can speed or avoid DUI checkpoints. I have it to save me, my driving record, and my insurance rates when I end up in the wrong place at precisely the wrong time. And that it has!

We recommend this to our clients that simply can’t afford to have another traffic citation on their driving records. Save money and your driving record.
You could love your GPS more and make it pay for itself as well. Here are a couple News Station Video Clips on Police Speed Trap Locaters and how it effectively it works. Drive safely.

If it’s too late and you have a speeding ticket, you have 3 ways to handle your speeding ticket.
